It's Krabi yo

Details:

Where: Krabi
Dates: 3 - 6 December 2016
Airline: Tiger Air
Stayed: The Unique Villa (3 bedroom and private pool)

Day 1:

Flight time was 1415 Singapore's Time Zone.
We reached Krabi at 1500 Bangkok's Timezone.
Goofing before takeoff

Only ROAR bothered
There's a driver there to pick us up to our villa. The driver was really nice, he stopped us at a 7-11 and we bought a lot of random snacks and cup noodles. Then proceeded to send us to the villa.

When we reached the villa, the host, Angela and her staff was there to welcome us with welcome drinks and fruits. She shared with us the various tour packages we can book through her and daily complimentary ride to Ao Nang beach. Angela pass us a phone to contact her should we require anything. Their service is superb. Highly recommended!

The moment Angela left, the guys went for a dip in our private pool. ROAR bought a water and shock proof camera for me to take random photos during the trip. But Weng played with it first.

Chang just chilling

After the guys were done swimming, we headed to Ao Nang Beach in a tuktuk. Our main objectives of the trip was discussed and it was

1) Ice-cream all day everyday
2) At least one massage a day

We walked along the beach and the sea breeze was........... cold. Shouldn't have worn shorts, the wind is not very strong but it come rather frequent. Then we had dinner at a Halal restaurant.

*There are many muslims in Krabi, Halal food is everywhere. There's also a mosque near the beach.

We waited quite long for our food
Floating head Mango Lassi
After dinner, we just wander around and found coconut ice cream for 60Baht.
All the works please
Chang is gawking at the ice-cream
Served with bananas

There's a store called Mother Marche which sells atas (Singlish for high class) groceries. We found wine coolers and other flavoured soy milk such as Thai Milk Tea, Green Tea, Chocolate.....!

Soymilk!
Then we went for a massage and headed back to the villa.

They folded the towels. So cute right.

Day 2: The day we found Carl, 'Ah Niu'

Woke up to an amazing Thai styled breakfast that consist of two variants of curry( the red one is sweet, the yellow one is spicy) served with thai beehoon and fried chicken. There's also free flow orange juice, milk and cereal. Breakfast staples.
The bosses

After breakfast, we went back to the beach for a massage. (There's some sort of happy hour between 11am -2pm, 50% discounted massage) We managed to bargain our way through a coconut oil massage (Usual 400Baht/hour) for 350 Baht for two hours. The oil they used SMELLS REALLY GOOD. The benefits of the coconut oil apparently moisturises and help in skin repair. After two hours, we started to feel hungry and we went around hunting for food. Went to a random store and got pad-thai for 50Baht and it was the best I've eaten so far. Followed by randomly walking around the place to look for a restroom. We bought an inflatable crocodile because of the fun Roar and Chang at BKK. Named it, Carl, 'Ah Niu'. We went back to the villa just to play with Ah Niu.
Pure happiness

After swimming, we went to the night market at Krabi Town. You just got to eat the food there!! It's so so good and affordable!

BBQ Corn (40Baht)
6 Takoyaki at 30Baht
Scallops
Meat! 'Nuff said.
Affordable and good!
Fried quail eggs at 20Baht

Cashew Nut
Belgian Waffles at 10Baht!

Coconut Milk Ice-blended (50Baht)
Coconut Ice Cream (40Baht)
So much food. I can only say ALL the food taste good to me! Best value.
Didn't really take ALL the food, some of them we just gobble them up before I remember about taking a picture. They have this fried coconut slice, which tastes heavenly! But careful, it's very hot on the inside.

Bought myself a passport holder.
*Tip: Get your souvenirs at the weekend night market! 15 little pouches for 200Baht.

Day 3: 1270 Stairs and Hot Springs

Woke up to another homely breakfast. Felt very loved in this villa. The host's mom was there every morning. She speaks Teochew (a chinese dialect). Love it when it feels like home.
Porridge for breakfast

First stop: Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Sua)

*Note: Ladies who are wearing shorts have to rent a sarong. There's certain dress code for ladies.
It's a Buddhist temple, apparently there are tiger paws print on the cave walls. The main challenge of this attraction is to climb 1270 steps to reach the peak of the mountain. Each step is equivalent to a squat. At the top, you will be rewarded with the 'best view of Krabi'.
As I was wearing shorts, I was stopped by the guard to get a sarong to cover my legs. You have to donate 20Baht to the temple for maintaining and washing the cloth.
*Note: Don't bring visible food up, the monkey will jump at you to take them away. It's quite scary.
Many statues around.
The steps are rather steep and narrow.
Each step is around 30cm

Monkeying around.
The view at 200+ steps is already quite nice.
I couldn't continue climbing around 200 steps. I was dizzy and starting burping non-stop. I failed badly. Roar went down with me to rest.
There's a convenience store that sells the regular drinks and snacks as well as medication for those who feel unwell.
This is me in my sarong and feeling defeated

As I took a while to recover, we just sad somewhere under a shade. When I felt better, Roar and I just walked around the temple.

The other guys made it up, then made their descent down the stairs. Which Weng had a bit of trouble with.

Proud of their achievements
Weng had trouble coming down
Well done guys!
To the next place!

Second Stop: Hot Spring (Namtok Ron, Khlong Thom)

I am not sure if it's because the weather has been gloomy, the supposedly hot spring doesn't feel that hot. However, there are a few man-made pools which are fed by the hot spring, is hotter than the spring itself.
Note: There's a lot of algae on the rocks, it is rather slippery. Do be careful making your way down. (Not recommended for children or elderly with mobility issues.)
To the Hot Stream! (That's what they call it)

If the tide is low, you can go down the river, but obviously it's very high now.

Then to the man-made pool! There are more algae in the pool here. If you don't mind, the water temperature here is hotter than the actual spring. The baby pool is the hottest.
Don't mind the thunder thighs. Those particle are the algae.

Fresh spring water transported through these blue pipes.

The baby pool
Fun ya.

Last Stop: Crystal Pool. Jungle trail. Emerald Pool and the Blue Pool.(Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve)

There's two ways to go to the Emerald Pool, a mud trail or a man-made trail. We started our journey through the man-made trail. On the way there, we were already able to see the crystal clear waters. The water is really still and clear! Such a beautiful sight. There are some thai children swimming in the pool at the entrance too.

It's about 1.4km walk. You will first see the crystal pool (or glass pool), then the emerald pool. You need to walk a further 600meters to get to the Blue Pool. The trail to the Blue Pool was arduous, some parent even brought a stroller in. It was extremely muddy, my slipper got stuck in the mud and it's hard to get it out. The rainy weather could have contributed to the muddy trail.
Welcome to Emerald Pool!
Roar and I
Clear waters
It's really a nature reserve

Walkingggggg
This looks straight out from a horror show.
*Note: The Blue Pool closes at 3pm, they do not want humans disturbing nature for too long. Also, you are NOT allowed to swim in the Blue Pool because it is too dangerous. Apparently it is surrounded by quicksand. So please listen to the rangers.
SO WOW.

After feasting our eyes, we headed back to the Emerald Pool.
*Note: The area around the Emerald Pool is full of rough rocks that looks ok to walk on but there's algae on it. A LOT OF ALGAE. It's dangerous to attempt to walk away from the trail, because it's VERY slippery, I kid you not. We saw a lady who fell quite badly. So don't let it happen to you.

I fell into the pool because I slipped on the rocks. I even sustain a bruise and cut. So please be careful. Otherwise, we had fun! =D

After the tour: To Ao Nang beach for the massage of the day and get ourselves-some-seafood time.

Day 3: Go home lo!

We had eggs for breakfast and went into the pool one last time before our ride came to get us. While we were in the pool, we had our first glance at the sun which has been hiding behind the clouds throughout the trip. It was then, I got burnt, Zzzzz.
When our ride came, our host, Angela and her mom sent us off. Then it's back to Singapore.

So that's our trip to Krabi.

Overall

Food:

There are plenty of Halal options and a lot of coconut has been incorporated in many of their dishes (eg. coconut shavings, coconut milk).
SEAFOOD. Eat their seafood!
Phad thai is also a great choice. (I love phad thai a lot so I'm a little bias here)

Stuff to buy:

Batik
Little Pouches/bags
Pashima (?)

Batik, the design has the thai flair to it. I guess there are also many peranakans around the area. Geographically, Krabi is kinda close to Malaysia being at the Southern part of Thailand.
There's a lot of little pouches and bags to buy as souvenirs in various prints and cute designs. Pashima! Not sure if it's real but heck, the designs are sooooo pretty! The colors are nice! But I didn't manage to get any T.T

Do:

Haggle at the stores
Except for those already selling quite cheaply. When we tried to buy 'Ah Niu', the storekeeper said it was 1680Baht. No wayyyyyy! We settled for 800Baht at the end.

Don't:

Be rude and too rowdy especially at religious sites. Always respect the culture and rules of others. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

Hope to go Krabi again to conquer the stairs the next time! Till then!
